Fixing a (Main quest) bug - Diplomatic Immunity: Malon begone?!

WARNING: SPOILERS

So I was doing the main quest "Diplomatic Immunity" and was supposed to contact Malon, once inside the embassy party - Only, he wasn't there. He was half-way across the continent, according to my map. Needless to say, this is a bug, but since I could find no patch fix, I decided to venture out and seek answers elsewhere.

Should the same thing happen to you, write this in your console command (opened by pressing ½ on your keyboard)

prid 33f46 [press enter]
moveto player [press enter]

And he should spawn right in front of you.

  4. I have a problem. I had a character but when I wanted to try a different way of playing so I started a new Character. but when I wanted to play on my old character, he had disappeared. I had not deleted honnom. I have also heard that you can have more files saved at the same time but I can only have one character and four saved files and they Delite itself after a while. have you any idea why?

  5. @ petter

Hi, I don't think you "saved your game"
Autosaves is something that keep happening throughout the game, when you walk into a house, cave, out of a cave out of a house etc etc...
But it saves over the old "autosave".
If you had "Saved" your character this would not have happen.
At least, that's what I think the problem is.

  6. If your character is gone, then you've probably saved over him.

The save options consists of three optional auto-saves, which can be turned on/off in the options menu; A quick-save hotkey [F5]; And then a manual save in the [Esc] menu.

It is my belief, as well as Mike's, that you have not manually saved on your previous character and therefore he is gone.

  7. It is different on the ps3. I don't think the ps3 can save the game any other way than auto-save...

McBrass, is there a fix if this bug happens on a console? Cause I'm pretty sure we can't do console commands... Thanks

  8. The PS3 version definitely allows you to make your own save files.

Some have pointed out that the game saves itself right before you make your character. This is so you don't have to watch the entire opening cinematic every time you make a new character.

Do not save over that file when you go to save your game manually. Use the 'Create New Save' option.

If you save over that first file, and exclusively use that save for your character you will lose it when you go to make a new character. From what I understand is the game will overwrite that file once again at the point just before you make your character.

I hope this makes sense, I am not that great at explaining things in my opinion x.X

  9. Oh, my bad - I didn't notice that it was on the PS3.

Listen to Seth, "she" is probably right.

  14. I have. With all six of my characters. I had the same problem with an assisination target. Discovered him at the bottom of the sea being torn apart by slaughter fish. But he never died. Just hovered there near the sea bed.

  15. guys i cannot get my gear.. pff somebody help me :(

    ReplyDelete
  16. What do you mean that you cannot get your gear?

    ReplyDelete
  17. i meant i could not get my gear from the chest in this specific quest. The gear should be in a chest, but it bugged. But thankfully, i managed to kill one of the guards with spells and then took his gear and resurrect him and then heal myself and finally complete the quest! :)

  18. I have gotten the same bug on my Xbox version of the game. Is there a way to enter commands or to fix it on the xbox version? I am freaking out a little and don't have any saves outside of the embassy and am thinking that I may be forced to restart my entire game if I cannot get him to the embassy or get out somehow. Please help me out to know if there is a fix I should try or if I really am stuck...

  19. On Xbox?! :O
    That is horrible!
After searching the internet, thoroughly, I must say, I can't find a fix. I guess you have to wait until the next patch.

  20. Good news... Letting the xbox sit for about 2 hours while Malchus slowly walked across the continent fixed the problem. Amazingly irritating, but at least I don't have to restart!

  21. Whilst I do realize the negative touch to this scenario, I also find it quite humorous.

  22. Yeah... After everything worked out ok, I found it a bit funny myself... Anyway, thanks for the time and attention...

  23. I've been having problems with the end of this quest. I've gotten to the torture room where there are supposed to be two guards talking to a prisoner. But instead, I only had one guard staring at the place where the prisoner was supposed to be. I don't know how else to finish the quest because you get the key to the reeving caves from one of the guards and I can't seem to attract anymore guards into that area. Plus the prisoner doesn't even show up for me!?! Any tips?
I have the game for PC

  24. Sounds tricky!

Do you have the latest update for Skyrim?
If not, try loading a save before you enter the room, after you've updated to the latest version.

Let me know how it works out.

  25. My problem is the guards outside the embassy won't take my invitation and so I can't get inside. I downloaded the latest update and went back to before I got on the wagon but the 4 guards just give me canned responses.

Help...Malborn smuggled all my quest stuff inside already!!

  27. Hello, "Stevo"

Are you wearing your party clothes?

    ReplyDelete
  28. my game keeps locking up after i see that chick at the stables right before the party, could i be giving malborn too much stuff to smuggle inside? ive tried loading from previous saves to make sure i hadnt done something wrong or something, i cant complete the quest or nothing!! i have the 360 version with no patches, "no internet", please help!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I apologize, but I really can't help you. Diplomatic Immunity is inherently an extremely buggy quest.

You have not given Malborn too much; that wouldn't make any sense.

What do you mean when you say "locking up?"

  30. well, i tried the quest a few days ago, and wasnt really prepared for it, i didnt have enuff sneak or vinisible potion, so i decided to level a bit then try it again, but now, after shes done talking, it just freezes, i didnt know if this was some kind of bug that ne one else expeirienced

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well, it's a totally wild guess, but try going away for a while. Fast travel away, do some other stuff for 48 in-game hours and try coming back to it.

    ReplyDelete
  32. well, i believe i fixed it just now, i just had way way too much stuff in my inventory, so i went and dumped most of it at the house in whiterun, then went back and tried again, and it didnt freeze, ty for trying to help me tho bud!!

  33. How incredibly odd. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for writing the solution, in case someone else comes looking for help.
